1. As you start downhill, tilt your body forward, beginning at the waist. Make a conscious effort to shift positions so that your trunk remains perpendicular to the ground.
2. When you tilt forward, your speed will increase naturally. To cope with this speed, raise your knees and lengthen your stride.
3. Maintaining balance as your speed increases is not easy. If the ground is uneven, you will need to focus on technique. One way to maintain balance is to allow your elbows to rise up and away from your body. (Think of yourself on a tightrope.)
4. To cushion the shock of the descent, land more on the front of your feet rather than on your heels.
